Jefferson Township Zoning and Building Portal

All Residential and Commercial Zoning Permit Applications, Right-of-Way Excavation Permits, and Applications to the Board of Zoning Appeals and Zoning Commission can now be completed through the Jefferson Township Zoning and Building Portal. Commercial Building Permits can also be applied for through the Portal. 

This paperless process allows the Jefferson Township Zoning and Building Department to serve you better by allowing for online payments, inspection scheduling, and a transparent review process.

Transient Vendors

All Transient Vendors (solicitors) in Jefferson Township are required to obtain a permit through the Zoning Department. The list of permitted companies will be updated as new applications are received. All solicitors should be able to prove they have been issued a Jefferson Township Transient Vendor Permit. If an unapproved solicitor comes to your door, please contact the Franklin County Sheriff's Office at (614) 525-3333 or 911 if you feel threatened, use your instincts and be safe.

Private Work in the Right-of-Way

All work in the rights-of-way of Township roads requires a permit, plan review and inspection. This includes driveways, culverts, utility work, and sidewalks installation, repair and maintenance. Standards for driveway approaches are available at the township office, 6545 Havens Road, and the Franklin County Engineer's Office, 970 Dublin Road, Columbus, Ohio 43215 (Telephone 614-525-3030).

All roads in Jefferson Township are Township Roads except the following County Roads: Clark State Road, Havens Corners Road, Kitzmiller Road, Morse Road, Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road, Taylor Road, Taylor Station Road and Waggoner Road. To report questions or obtain information regarding these county roads, call the Franklin County Engineer’s Office at (614) 525-3030, or visit the County Engineer’s website. 

Maintenance is shared between Jefferson Township and Gahanna on portions of Headley Road, Shull Road and Clotts Road. Maintenance is shared on Dixon Road between Jefferson Township and the City of Pataskala. To apply for a tent permit, download and complete the application and return to the Jefferson Township Fire Prevention Bureau at 6767 Havens Corners Road between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. or by email to Inspector Mast at cmast@jeffersontownship.org.

TENT PERMIT

To apply for a burn permit, download and complete the application and return to the Jefferson Township Fire Prevention Bureau at 6767 Havens Corners Road between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. or by email to Inspector Mast at cmast@jeffersontownship.org 48 hours prior to burning. Burn permits only apply to commercial, educational or community organizations. A permit is not required for personal, at home bonfires.

BURN PERMIT

Commercial and educational facilities in Jefferson Township are required to perform a fire watch when fire suppression or detection systems are not functional. For more information, contact the Fire Prevention Bureau at 614-588-5880 or by email to Inspector Mast at cmast@jeffersontownship.org.

Apply for a Certificate of Occupancy Permit when the business or owners name changes, but the function remains the same. Return form to the Jefferson Township Fire Prevention Bureau at 6767 Havens Corners Road between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. or by email to Inspector Mast at cmast@jeffersontownship.org.
