JTFD Health and Safety Services

Bad Weather Well-Being Checks
JTFD performs well-being checks during severe weather. For some of our elderly or ill neighbors, a storm can turn into a life threatening experience. Firefighters will check on these at-risk residents to make sure they have adequate heating systems, and to determine whether they are using heating devices that could pose risks of fire or carbon monoxide poisoning. A phone call, a knock at the door, and a helping hand might make all the difference, especially for someone living alone. To find out more email YOURJTFD@jeffersontownship.org or call 614-861-3757.

Blood Pressure Checks
Residents may stop by the fire station to have their blood pressure measured. We recommend that you call ahead, at 614-861-3757, to make sure staff are available.

Child Passenger Safety
When you consider the many kinds of vehicles and child safety seat models on the market, it's easy to understand why installing and using car seats properly is complicated. JTFD offers free car seat safety checks with a certified child passenger safety technician by appointment, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Call 614-861-3757 to schedule.

CPR/AED Training
When people are equipped with the skills to perform CPR, and know how to properly use an AED, they become “heart smart” and help increase survival rates for those experiencing cardiac arrest. You can become “heart smart” by signing up for CPR / AED classes offered by the Jefferson Township Fire Department. To find out more email YOURJTFD@jeffersontownship.org or call 614-861-3757.

Community Paramedic (CP) Program
We are always looking for innovative ways to bring the best possible care possible to our community and are proud to offer the Community Paramedic (CP) Program. The CP focus is on education, injury prevention, and building community partnerships to help improve our residents' lives. The CP Program provides community-based healthcare, with our paramedics functioning outside their customary emergency roles to educate and assist residents in health and safety issues. To learn more or to schedule one of the services listed below, contact us at 614-552-1852 or at CPU141@jeffersontownship.org

CP Program Registry
The CP Program Registry is designed to help minimize the impact of injuries, illnesses, and emergencies experienced by those with chronic health concerns, and to help all stay in their home as long as possible. The CP Team gathers pertinent information about the specific needs of the individual(s), performs a home safety inspection and collaborates with the family and providers to develop a trusting relationship in case of future emergency situations. Information gathered by the team is available to emergency services to provide the best level of care and compassion to those in the program.

Coordinated Care Relationships
The CP Program is uniquely positioned to support partnerships with local healthcare providers to create coordinated home care support for our more vulnerable residents. CP goals are to prevent unnecessary hospitalizations, facilitate healthcare navigation, and increase connection to community resources. Connecting residents to the appropriate support services could help prevent future emergency situations.

Safe Baby Training
Are you worried about being a new parent, or it has been a few years? This program offers at home evaluation and classes to give parents peace of mind. Including: Adult, Child, and Infant CPR; safe sleep evaluations; and child safety seat checks.

Risk Assessment
CP Program team members can provide confidential, non-emergency medical evaluations and education in your own home, helping residents stay safe in their homes and reducing the need for future emergency medical care. Team members can also conduct fall risk assessments to help reduce the risk of residents falling in their home.

Knox Box
Property owners in Jefferson Township are encouraged to store entrance keys, access cards and floor plans in high-security Knox-Box key boxes mounted near your building entrances. Each Knox Box purchased is keyed to a single master key controlled by your fire department. With the Knox System, there is no cost to the fire department, no waiting for a property owner to unlock the door in the middle of the night, and no forcing the door open to gain entry. The Knox Rapid Entry System reduces response time, property damage and liability for lost keys.

If you have a question about Knox Boxes or would like the Fire Department to assess whether your home or business would benefit from one, contact the Jefferson Township Fire Prevention Bureau at 614-588-5880 or by email to Fire Marshal Chad Mast at cmast@jeffersontownship.org.

Reflective Address Signs
Have you wondered how you can get a blue reflective vertical address sign with reflective silver numbers for your mailbox post? To order, email Rebecca at rswingle@jeffersontownship.org or call 614-861-3757.
